Diagnostic Imaging 

We provide the following services:  
  • Direct Radiography – the IDC unit was purchased in 2006 and allows the digital images acquired on this system to be almost instantaneously displayed on a screen allowing the Technologist to adjust the image if needed prior to sending it to the PACS (Picture Archiving Communication System). There are no cassettes used with this system.
     
  • Computerized Radiography – the Konica CR unit was purchased in 2006 and uses cassettes. Once the image is acquired these cassettes are fed into the reader, an image is produced and is displayed on a computer monitor for the Technologist to review prior to sending the images to the PACs.
     
  • Digital Colour Doppler Ultrasound Unit – The Toshiba Aplio XG was purchased in 2008.  We provide abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological, small parts, breast, prostate and ultrasound guided biopsies.  We also provide colour carotid Doppler services as well as deep vein thrombosis imaging and limited musculoskeletal imaging.
     
  • Mammography – Our Siemens Mammo 3000 Nova was purchased in 2000 and features a user friendly rotating bucky. In June 2009, HWMH was again first, the first client based facility in North America, to acquire the Konica Minolta CR digital mammography system.
  • ECG’s and Holter Monitors
  • Portable X-Rays 
  • Bone Densitometry - Hologic Dexa Unit purchased June 1997.
     
  • Loop Monitors
  • We have a Radiologist daily and our digital images may be sent to the Radiologist for off site viewing.  We work with the Surgeon for needle localization of breast masses.
    • Digital Colour Ultrasound Unit - The Toshiba Aplio XG was purchased in 2008. All images are stored on the PACS server. We provide abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological, small parts, breast, prostate and ultrasound guided biopsies. We also provide colour carotid Doppler services as well as deep vein thrombosis imaging with limited musculoskeletal ultrasound studies.
    • Mammography- our Siemens Mammo 3000 Nova was purchased in 2000 and features a user friendly rotating bucky. This modality is also filmless. CR mammography is a digital imaging system like the every day system; the difference is that there are many more pixels to produce a more detailed image.
    • ECG's, Holter Monitors (24H, 48H, 72H) and Loop Monitors.
    • Portable CR Radiography.
    • Bone Densitometry- Hologic Dexa Unit purchased in June 1997. Images are stored in PACS. These are supported by OHIP only once every three years unless you are taking certain drugs such as: biophosphates, steroids, thyroxins.
    • The PACS system enables the Radiologist to view these images on a computer workstation, even at home.
    • Viewing stations are located in the ER, OR, Doctor's lounge and a mobile station is stored on the IPU unit and moved to the Clinic offices for the specialists when they come on site.
    • The system has the ability to allow special licenses for the images to be viewed offsite.
    • Our digital images are downloaded onto a CD when cases need to be sent to a specialist and the images can be viewed on any computer system that has XP.
    • HWMH along with sites from the LHIN 3 and LHIN 4 is working toward linking together so all sites can view images through the Diagnostic Imaging Repository (DI-r).
