EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

Our Emergency Department is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For life threatening emergencies, always call 911.

Susan retired in 2016 after being employed by York University for 28 years. Her last post at York was as its Associate Vice President Teaching and Learning. Prior to that, she was an Associate Dean with the Faculty of Health.

Dr. Vail has undergraduate and graduate degrees in Kinesiology and Health Science from McMaster and the University of Western Ontario. Her doctorate was completed at the University of Ottawa in Education Administration, with a specialty in organizational effectiveness.

Upon her retirement, Susan moved back to Dunnville with her partner and engaged in volunteer work in the community. She was a member of the True Experience (TE) board from 2017-2021 and served on the Dunnville Hospital and Healthcare Foundation’s (DHHF) Governance and Nominating Committee from 2019 to 2026. She was also a member of Golf Ontario’s Board from 2016-2024.

Susan was born in Dunnville at the house on Alder Street that served as the temporary hospital while the HWMH was under construction. She lived with her family on Cedar Street until she left for university. To the best of her knowledge, she is (at least) fourth generation Dunnville. The hospital has been an integral part of the health of her family and friends for her entire life. Through her work with the HWMH Board, Susan hopes to give back to the community and contribute to safeguarding the future of the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital and Edgewater Gardens.
